Song: “My Dearest Nightingale” (Original: Shhunno-E-Buke)

by Kazi Nazrul Islam

(Translation: Gulshan Ara)

Please come back, come back to my empty bosom
The morning flowers wither away untimely
Mourning your loss
Won’t you return to my empty bosom!

O, my dearest silly one,
Without your presence the moon turned pale
The river cries out in pain
Pleading you to return

O, the beautiful one
The trees search for you spreading out their branches
Up in the sky
The storm churns through the woods
Looking for you
Branches lay on the dirt in deep pain

O my restless one
When you return
Lotus will re-bloom
Your glance will make the gray sky
Turn azure again

O, my dear one, please return to my empty bosom!
Please return!
