HOLI – Festival der Farben

Während DJs mit geschmeidigen Beats für den passenden Rhythmus sorgen, nieselt ein Regen aus buntem Farbpulver
auf die Tanzenden herunter: Am 15.09.2013 gastiert das »HOLI – Festival der Farben« im Stadtpark Norderstedt
und lädt zum gemeinsamen Kolorieren ein. Das Fest ist angelehnt an die indische Tradition, den Frühling mit bunten
Farben zu begrüßen. Auf Kommando, den Big Toss, wird das eingefärbte Pulver aus natürlichem Maismehl in die
Höhe geschleudert. Farbfontänen fliegen in die Luft, die Veranstaltungswiese verschwindet unter einer bunten Wolke
und die Menge nimmt ein Bad in den schönsten Koloriten. Orientalische Tanzgruppen und Showeinlagen knüpfen an die indische Tradition an und lassen ein neuartiges, interkulturelles HOLI mitten in Europa einkehren.

HOLI – Festival of Colors

While DJs play smooth beats and a perfectly harmonizing music, a rain of colored powder drizzles on the guests: On
15th of September 2013 the »HOLI – Festival of Colors« will take place in Stadtpark Norderstedt. The festival was
inspired by an Indian tradition which welcomes spring with colors. All guests will be part of the Big Toss: On cue, the
visitors will throw their powder into the air and fountains of color will make the whole scene disappear. The crowd
takes a bath in the most beautiful cloud of colors. Oriental dance groups and other show elements linked to Indian
tradition will create a new type of cross cultural HOLI in the middle of Europe.

Abend der indischen Mantren zum Mitsingen

Mit dem Singen von Mantren wird in Indien der lebendige Kontakt zu verschiedenen göttlichen Aspekten wie Bewusstheit,
Schöpferkraft, Mitgefühl, mütterlicher Liebe, Hingabe und vielen anderen aufrecht erhalten. Oft hört man dort die
Menschen auf der Straße diese Zeilen singen. Einige der Mantren dieses Abends wurden direkt in Indien an verschiedenen Orten gesammelt, andere hier im Westen. An diesem Abend werden wir leicht zu lernende, teils mehrstimmige Mantren singen und in den inneren Raum von Klang und heilsamer Schwingung eintauchen. Künstlerin Bea Simon wird die Gitarre und das indisches Harmonium spielen.

Evening with Indian Mantras to Sing Along

By singing mantras the people from India are maintaining vivid relationship to different divine aspects like living consciously, creative power, compassion, motherly love, surrender and many more. Often you can hear people sing these words in the streets. Some of the mantras of this night were collected in different places in India, others here in the West. Together we will sing simple mantras during this evening, some of them in two or three parts, and we will enter into the inner space of sound and healing energy. Artist Bea Simon will play the guitar and the harmonium from India.

Tanzende Skulpturen – Ästhetische Prinzipien des indischen Tanzes
Vortrag von Gudrun Märtins, Odissi-Tänzerin

Indischer Tanz ist mittlerweile auch dem westlichen Publikum bekannt: Zahlreiche klassisch orientierte Künstler
finden ebenso wie die Bollywoodfilme mit ihren Tanzeinlagen ihren Weg nach Hamburg. Doch was steckt eigentlich
hinter dieser vielfältigen Tanzkultur? Die Odissitänzerin Gudrun Märtins erläutert in ihrem Vortrag die ästhetischen
Hintergründe. Dabei nimmt sie Bezug auf das ca. 2000 Jahre alte »natyasastra«, die Urschrift tänzerischer Regelwerke.
Der Körper wird hier in kleine Einheiten aufgegliedert, deren Bewegungen isoliert geübt und dann in komplexen
Bewegungsabläufen zusammengesetzt werden.

By now Indian dance is also known to Western audiences. Many classically orientated artists and Bollywood movies
with their dances find their way to Hamburg. But what is the background of this multifaceted dancing culture? The
famous Odissi dancer Gudrun Märtins explains the aesthetic backgrounds in her lecture. She refers to the approximately
2000 years old »natyasastra«, the original dance rules, which divides the body into small units whose movements
are practiced isolated and reassembled in complex motion sequences.

Indien beim Weltkinderfest 2013

Das »Weltkinderfest« ist der Auftakt des »Internationalen Musik- und Theaterfestivals KinderKinder«. Etwa 50.000 Menschen werden am Sonntag vor dem Weltkindertag an über 60 Spielstationen basteln, klettern, malen und musizieren. Auf drei Bühnen treten Kinder aus aller Welt auf. 2013 wird es erstmals eine Indien-Bühne geben. Anjan Saha und Kaberi Sen aus Kolkata präsentieren klassische
indische Musik und Odissi Tanz, die Mädchen der »Experimental Theatre Foundation« aus Mumbai spielen »Drop by Drop – Water« und Schüler des Gymnasiums Hummelsbüttel bringen ihr Stück »Choti Si Asha« auf die Bühne. Aber das ist natürlich noch nicht alles … um die Bühne herum laden Stände die Hamburger Kinder ein, sich selbst in indischem Kunsthandwerk zu versuchen.

India at the World Children’s Fest 2013

The »World Children‘s Fest» is the beginning of the »International Music- and Theatre Festival KinderKinder«. About 50.000 will happily spend the Sunday before the World Children‘s Day painting, climbing, playing music, doing games and handicraft at more than 60 stalls. Children from all over the world are presenting their music and their dances. In 2013 we have an all-Indian stage for the very first time. Anjan Saha and Kaberi Sen from Kolkata are presenting classical Indian music and Odissi dance, the girls from »Experimental Theatre Foundation», Mumbai, play »Drop by Drop – Water« and children form a Hamburg grammar school bring their play »Choti Si Asha – A little bit of Hope« to our Indian stage. But there is more … nearby there are stalls where Hamburg´s children can experience Indian handicraft hands on.

Choti Si Asha – Ein kleines bisschen Hoffnung

Choti Si Asha – ein kleines bisschen Hoffnung: Das von einer Sechstklässlerin geschriebene Theaterstück erzählt von der besonderen Projektreise einer jungen Schülergruppe nach Orissa im Jahr 2011. Es geht um die faszinierenden Eindrücke und Begegnungen in Indien, die Herzlichkeit der Menschen und das erste Treffen mit den indischen Patenkindern in den Schulen vor Ort. Gespielt wird dieses Stück von den Mitgliedern der Indien-AG aus den Klassen 5 – 7 des Gymnasiums Hummelsbüttel. Seit 2005 unterstützt die Indien-AG des Gymnasiums verschiedene Projekte mit den indischen Partnern des Vereins SSSS (Sambalpur Social Service Society): Vor fünf Jahren startete das Patenschaftskonzept, in dem benachteiligte Kinder dreier Schulen in ländlichen Gebieten unterstütz werden und es wird bis heute fortgeführt.

Choti Si Asha – A little bit of Hope

Choti Si Asha – a little bit of hope: A 6th grade student has written a play about a very special journey of some young
students to Orissa in 2011. The story tells about fascinating impressions and new encounters in India, about the
Indian culture and its warmhearted welcome traditions and it shows the first meeting with the Indian godchildren in
their schools. The actors of this play are also the members of the India working group at the Gymnasium Hummelsbüttel
from classes 5 to 7. Since 2005 the working group of the school conducts different projects for and from their
partners of the Indian association SSSS (Sambalpur Social Service Society): Five years back they started a programme
that supports the education of underprivileged children in three schools in tribal areas.

Walk the Elbe Yamuna Perfume.
Eine Performance

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung »Imagine Two Rivers – Die Suche nach dem Elbe-Yamuna-Parfum« in der Freie Flusszone Station auf dem Ida-Ehre-Platz (Mönckebergstraße) findet am 14.09.2013 um 16 Uhr die Kunst-Performance »Walk the Elbe Yamuna Perfume« statt.
Die Künstlerin Ines Lechleitner und der Parfümeur Yogesh Kumar stellen das Parfum vor, tragen es Teilnehmern individuell auf und leiten den gemeinsamen Weg zur Elbe entlang der Wasserwege.
Die Performance ist der Abschluss von Lechleitners Projekt »Imagine Two Rivers«, das im Herbst 2011 im Rahmen des Yamuna-Elbe-Projektes seinen Anfang nahm.

Teilnahme kostenlos. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist begrenzt.
Treffpunkt: Freie Flusszone Station.

Walk the Elbe Yamuna Perfume.
A Performance

On September 14 at 4pm the performance »Walk the Elbe Yamuna Perfume« with the visual artist Ines Lechleitner and the perfumer Yogesh Kumar will take place in the context of the exhibition »Imagine Two Rivers – the research for the Elbe Yamuna Perfume« at the Free River Zone Station on the Ida-Ehre-Platz (Mönckebergstraße).
Lechleitner and Kumar will present the perfume and apply it individually to the participants following the scented walk to the Elbe along the waterways. The performance is the closing event of Lechleitner’s project »Imagine Two Rivers« that started in the context of the Yamuna-Elbe project in autumn 2011.

Free participation / Limited number.

Frauenverachtung ist keine indische Spezialität
– Gewalt gegen Frauen als Entwicklungshemmnis / Deutschland – Indien – Weltweit

Das Thema Gewalt gegen Frauen hat auch in deutschen Medien großen Nachhall gefunden. Die Benachteiligung
von Frauen auf verschiedenen Ebenen lässt sich auch als eines der wesentlichen Entwicklungshemmnisse lesen.
Wir fragen, wo die Ursachen dieser gruppenbezogenen Gewalt in Indien zu suchen sind, werden die Stellung der
Frau in der indischen Gesellschaft zugleich aber auch in den globalen Kontext der Frauenrechtsbewegung einordnen
und die Rückfrage nach den Verhältnissen in Deutschland stellen. Referentinnen: Edda Kirleis (Religionspädagogin),

 »Im Schatten des Hauses, in der Sonne des Flussufers«

Mit den Worten des Ausstellungstitels beginnt eine indische Erzählung, die seit Anfang des 20. Jh. die westliche
Vorstellung von Mythen und Spiritualität Indiens prägte. Für Generationen war die Dichtung Hermann Hesses eine
Maxime. George Harrison und die Beatles wandelten auf den Pfaden Siddharthas über den Subkontinent. Millionen
Jünger der »Love and Peace« – Generation sollten ihnen folgen.
Dieses Bild über Indien zeigt eine einseitig verzerrte, post-koloniale Vorstellung als Nachhall der Popkultur. Doch
so faszinierend die Kultur Indiens für die bildende Kunst von jeher war, so wenig verstehen wir heute von den aktuellen
Strömungen in der zeitgenössischen Kunst. Das Künstlerhaus FRISE wird im diesjährigen Artist-In-Residence-Programm
jungen Künstlern aus Indien die Gelegenheit bieten, uns einen frischen Blick auf Indiens Kunst zu schenken.

»In the shade of the house, in the sunshine of the riverbank«

The title of the exhibition is taken from the first lines of an Indian narration that influenced the Western notion about
myths and spirituality in India since the beginning of the 20th century. The poetry of Hermann Hesse was a maxim
for various generations. George Harrison and the Beatles walked over the subcontinent in the footsteps of Siddhartha
with millions of followers from the »Love and Peace« generation.
This image about India reflects a one-sided distorted, post-colonial perception evolving from the echoes of pop culture. As fascinating the culture of India has always been for the arts, as little we understand today about the current trends in contemporary arts. The Artist House FRISE allows a fresh view on India`s art scene in this year`s Artist-in-Residence program.

Ghazal-Gesang und indische Instrumentalmusik

Ghazal besteht aus einer lieblichen, melancholischen Dichtung mit klassischen Melodien und voller poetischer
Eleganz. Der Ghazal hat nicht nur eine besondere Form, sondern meist auch nur ein Thema – die Liebe. Vor allem die
unerreichbare. Obwohl er zur klassischen Musik gehört, wird der Ghazal auch von vielen geschätzt, die mit den Feinheiten
der klassischen Musik Indiens noch nicht vertraut sind. Am 13. Sept. können Sie die Vielfalt des Ghazal im Hamburger
Völkerkundemuseum erleben: Die indischen Musiker Amit Chakraborty (Sänger der nordindischen Klassik), Ustad Hussein Baksh Gulu (zusammen mit seinen Söhnen Chand & Suraj Khan als Jugalbandi (Duet)), Ashgar Ali Khan und Akhbar Ali (Violine/Afghanistan) werden Sie mitnehmen in die Welt der traditionellen indischen Musik und des Ghazal. Die deutsch-indische Tänzerin Caroline Gebert-Khan wird dazu klassischen indischen Tanz aufführen.

Ghazal Songs and Indian Instrumental Music

Ghazal is a sweet and melancholic arrangement of verses with a blend of classical delicacy and poetic grandeur. The Ghazal not only has a specific form, but traditionally deals with just one subject: love, specifically a furtive and  unattainable kind of love. Despite being a part of Indian classical music, Ghazal has been enjoyed by people who are not yet familiar with the classical nuances of Indian music. On 13 Sept., you can enjoy a night full of versatile sounds of
Ghazal in Museum of Ethnology in Hamburg. The Indian musicians Amit Chakraborty (vocalist of North Indian Classics), Ustad Hussein Baksh Gulu (together with his sons Chand & Suraj Khan as jugelbandi (duet)), Ashgar Ali Khan and Akhbar Ali (Violine/Afghanistan) will take you to the world of traditional Indian music, especially to the world of Ghazal. Begegnungen mit dem Hinduismus

Der Hinduismus bildet die größte Religionsgemeinschaft Indiens. Seine Wurzeln reichen etwa 4000 Jahre zurück und
er umfasst verschiedene Lehrrichtungen und eine vielgestaltige Götterwelt. Alte Weisheiten über die Einbettung
des Einzelnen im Kosmos treffen sich im Alltag mit bunten Festen, stillen Ritualen und dem Bemühen um gutes Karma.
Vor der kontemplativen Kulisse des Gartens gibt eine Indienerfahrene Referentin Einblicke in diese Religion. Doch

Encounters with Hinduism

Hinduism is the main religion in India. It dates back around 4000 years, contains different teachings and a pantheon
rich with gods and goddesses. Old wisdoms about the embedding of the human being in the cosmic context meet
colorful festivals, peaceful rituals and the constant efforts for good karma. In the contemplative setting of the garden,
an India expert will give insights into this religion. However Hinduism is not the only religion practiced in India – the
country is also home to Buddhists, Moslems, Christians and a huge array of other religious groups. Therefore, the
igs 2013 also offers workshops about other world religions.

Orissas Bauern zwischen Dreschflegel und Smartphone

Im Kontext von Urbanisierung und Migration befindet sich die Landbevölkerung Ostindiens in einem kontroversen
Spagat aus Tradition und Moderne. Der Weg der indigenen Bevölkerung, der Adivasi, vom Land in die Stadt, vom
»Dreschflegel zum Smartphone«, kann für die ursprüngliche Kultur Indiens eine neue Perspektive, aber auch
Identitätsverlust bedeuten. Wo neue Medien, moderne Technologie und Wissenschaft dominieren, geraten indigene
Sprachen, traditionelle Tänze oder Traditionen ins Abseits.

Fragen zu Rechten und Perspektiven von Frauen, Bildung und Bauxitabbau in Orissa sollen in dieser Veranstaltung einen
Raum finden, um in einer Ausstellung mit Filmen, Bildern und Diskussionen gemeinsam thematisiert zu werden. Unter
der Organisation des »Zentrums für Mission und Ökumene – Nordkirche weltweit« werden ausgewählte Referenten aus
ihrer Perspektive von Praxis und Wissenschaft berichten.

Orissa´s Farmers between Flail and Smartphone

In the context of urbanization and migration, the rural population in Eastern India is in a controversial balancing act
between tradition and modernity. The path of the indigenous population, Adivasis, from rural to urban, from »flail to smartphone « can be a new perspective for the indigenous culture of India, but also a loss of identity. Where new media, modern technology and science dominate, indigenous languages, traditional dances or traditions fall behind.

Questions about rights and opportunities of women, education and bauxite mining in Orissa will find its space during this event, and will be examined in an exhibition of film, images and discussions. Organized by the »Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany – Centre for Global Ministries and Ecumenical Relations«, selected speakers will report on their perspective of practice, research and science.

of India. Renting an apartment, taking an auto rikshaw, visiting Rishikesh, or having the internet connection installed – all this is different in India, it is surprising and sometimes funny.

Going South – Das Kino Südindiens

Dieses Jahr im Fokus der Filmreihe: das Südindische Kino. Es werden 10 – 12 aktuelle Produktionen vorgestellt, u.a. in
Tamil, Telegu, Kannada und Malayalam. Vom erfolgreichen Blockbuster über den international gefeierten Arthousefilm
bis zur Dokumentation legen die eingeladenen Filme Zeugnis von einem kraftvollen Kino ab, voller Vitalität und
Spielfreude. Premieren- und Eröffnungsfeste begleiten das Programm und eingeladene Regisseure stehen für Publikumsfragen in Interviews zur Verfügung. Girish Kasaravalli, international gefeierte Regiegröße aus Karnataka, ist mit einer eigenen Werkschau dabei. Als Vertreter der Indian New Wave und einer der Pioniere des Parallel Cinema im Kino der Kannada-Filmindustrie, sieht er sich in seiner Arbeit von Regisseuren wie Satyajit Ray, Antonioni, Kurosawa und Ozu inspiriert. Die Kinemathek Hamburg präsentiert eine Auswahl aus seinem umfassenden Filmwerk.

Going South – The Cinema of South India

The focus of this year’s movie series: the South Indian Cinema. There is a line-up of fresh faces from the Indian
filmmaking scene. Movies are being screened in Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and Malayalam. The array of selected films
– from successful blockbusters to internationally acclaimed arthouse movies and documentary films – shows a powerful
Indian filmmaking scene, full of vitality and emotion. There will be an opening night, premier screenings and invited directors will be present to the public for Q&A’s. Noted film director Girish Kasaravalli from Karnataka will be present in his own retrospective. Being one of the pioneers of the Parallel Cinema in Kannada, he was inspired by the world of Kurosawa, Ray, Ozu, and Antonioni.

– Hamburger Jazz trifft indische Musiker

Während ihrer Tourneen in Indien 2011 / 2012 spielten die Hamburger Jazzmusiker Boriana Dimitrova Quartett und
Joscheba & Band mit verschiedenen indischen Musikern. Dieser musikalische Austausch wird jetzt zurückgespielt:
Indische Musiker kommen nach Deutschland und machen die besondere Mischung bei einem exklusiven Konzert in
der Fabrik erlebbar! Zu hören gibt es die kraftvolle Saxofonistin Boriana Dimitrova, die mit ihrer Band bestehend aus
Jakob Dreyer (Kontra- und E-Bass), Lars Dahlke (Gitarre) und Niels-Henrik Heinsohn (Schlagzeug) das internationale
Publikum erobern. Die herausragende Sängerin Joscheba wird mit ihrer virtuosen Band (Buggy Braune (Piano), Johannes Wennrich (Gitarre), Olli Karstens (Bass) und Konrad Ullrich (Schlagzeug)) Musik machen, die aus dem Herzen kommt. Anantha Krishnan (Tabla, Mridungam) und Palakkad Sreeram (Gesang, Flöte) aus Indien bereichern diese Klänge mit Instrumenten aus der klassischen karnatischen Musik.

Indian and German musicians will give an exclusive concert n the Fabrik! Listen to the powerful sounds of saxophonist

(drums). You will also hear the outstanding singer Joscheba and her virtuous band, consisting of Buggy Braune (piano),

From the Tealeaf to the Cup – Tea from India

India ranks among the largest tea producing nations worldwide. »Assam« and »Darjeeling« are not only names for
different types of teas but also places and regions in India, that are well suited for the cultivation of tea shrubs. This
workshop will give an insight into the life of the people in those regions, the journey of the freshly picked tealeaves
