NEW & HOT: Veena maestro Salil Bhatt releases ‘Slide to Freedom’ (07/18/2007)

Chandigarh, July 18: Salil V Bhatt, son of Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, was in city to formally release his music album ‘Slide to Freedom’. He gave a recital of Satvik Veena in a special programme organised by the Pracheen Kala Kendra this evening.
Salil’s baaz (style) assimilates the gayaki (vocal) and tantrakari (instrumental) representation. He specialises in playing high-speed taans on the Mohan Veena.
He opened his recital with Raga Bageshree, using both the gandharas. Beginning with alapchari, he moved on to present jod and jhala in fast tempo depicting Raga Swaroo. His valambit, madhyalaya and drutgats delighted the audience.
Ram Kumar Mishra, a noted tabla player of Banaras Gharana, accompanied him on the tabla.
Salil concluded with a dhun in Raga Bhupali taken from his album.
M L Koser, Registrar of the Kendra honoured the artists.
Salil represents the tenth generation of the famous Bhatt lineage, where music has been flowing for more than five hundred years. Padmashree Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt won the Grammy Award in 1994.
Emerging from his illustrious father shadow, Salil is striving to find his place in the world of music.
Like his father, who invented the Mohan Veena, Salil has created the Satvik Veena (named after his son, Satvik) five years ago. Salil has been mastering the Mohan Veena for more than sixteen years.
With a Masters degree in music, Salil has performed throughout the country as well as abroad.
He is a regular performer for All India Radio, Doordarshan and other prime television channels.
Salil has been the celebrity artist in various channels such as Star TV (Good Morning Show), Zee TV (Morning Zee), Aaj Tak, Star News, Zee News, DD 1 (Subah Savere), DD 1 (Sanskritinama), DD Metro (Good Morning Metro).
