The origins of Indian classical music can be found from the oldest of scriptures, part of the Hindu tradition, the Vedas. Samaveda, one of the four Vedas, describes music at length. Indian classical music has its origins as a meditation tool for attaining self realization. All different forms of these melodies (Ragas) are believed to affect various “chakras” (energy centers, or “moods”) in the path of the “Kundalini”. [read full text…]

Please do not associate music with Chakra-s. This is not main stream; it is misleading. The knowledge of arts and culture is gradually vanishing. It is essential for people to appreciate good music. In ancient Indian culture it was important to be a rasik. Alas, everyone is a performer today. The reality shows are hurting appreciation of arts. Efforts like that of AATMA (http://www.opchourasiya.com/aatma.html) are needed to restore arts to their due stature.
