Saptak – An institution that exists solely for music

Saptak celebrates the Indian classical music tradition, helps you get drenched in its richness, explore its idiom, discover its nuances and preserve its timeless essence. It’s an exploration of the world of music in its entirety. From promoting an understanding and learning of Hindustani classical music – vocal and instrumental, to forging a musical bond between all music lovers, the artiste and the rasika, and creating an archival treasure of music – it’s an entire gamut that Saptak offers.

About Saptak…

The famous Russian composer and concert pianist Sergei Rachmaninov had once said that, “Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.” To delve deeper into the world of music, a group of performers and music connoisseurs in Ahmedabad started on a journey in 1980 The quest was to connect with all those who were associated with Indian classical music – as a performer, as a student or as a rasika (listener). The initiative had the blessings of two legends of Indian Classical Music – Pt. Ravishankar and Pt. Kishan Maharaj. Nearly 30 years later, the spark of inspiration continues to burn bright, lighting up the path for newer initiatives that continue to evolve.

SAPTAK 2014 (part 1: 1st-13th Jan / part 2: 27th & 28th January)

The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Sankrant’. For Indian classical music it is ‘Sankrant’ as music tradition passes from one generation to another. This year’s programme features such a confluence of generations. Listeners will find it heartening that the classical tradition is vibrant as they watch the making of the new maestros.
