Europalaia.india : India will be in the spotlight this autumn holiday
Festival highlights in the coming weeks:
Cinema: Flageywood Day at Flagey
Music: Harsh Wardhan, DJ Madlib and the beautiful Meeta Pandit
Dance: Kalpana Raghuraman, the Ionah Trio, and the contemporary artist Revanta Sarabhai.
Our young public will also be satisfied :
The Théâtre Royal du Peruchet will present a musical zoological farce, The Curious Little Elephant by Rudyard Kipling, set to the music of the ‘Carnival of Animals’ by Camille Saint-Saëns.
The delightful International Children’s Film Festival, Filem’on, will also open this week and promises to enchant everyone.
Two Indian dance workshops for kids will take place in the framework of Flageywood Day.
Children are able to discover the exhibition Indomania through a fun activity booklet in which comic book fragments make the themes of the exhibition fun and exciting.
Last but not least, young visitors can enjoy a magnificent experience at The Body in Indian Art exhibition, thanks to our specially adapted audio guide for kids.
Win a Durga or a Ganesh statuette during Diwali
On Sunday November 3, the first 100 visitors with a combi ticket will receive a free statuette to celebrate the Festival of Lights. You will be able to take it at our infopoint in front of Bozar.
Diwali is one of the most important festivals in India. It commemorates the return of Rama to Ayodhya where inhabitants illuminated the whole city in his honour. Diwali thus became known as the Festival of Lights.
Different events will be organized throughout Belgium, in Ghent, Leuven, Brussels… and of course, europalia.india will be part of these celebrations.
Artists in residence
The Indian artist Bhagwati Prasad is currently in residence in AIR in Antwerp, where he is creating a graphic novel in which the creation of the world is linked with the history of tools, based on observations of the city of Delhi.
From 18 November to 2 December 2013, Manu Joseph, the famous Indian journalist and novelist will be in residence at Passa Porta. The international house of literature has invited him to write in the heart of Brussels.
Don’t forget that two Belgian artists, Hans Op de Beeck and Max Pinckers, were also in residence in India to create works that represent contemporary Indomania.
Europalia.india @ Boekenbeurs Antwerp
The 77th edition of the Boekenbeurs (book fair) opens on October 31 at Antwerp Expo. On Saturday November 2, the fair turns eastwards: India, Bollywood, yoga and other themes will enjoy pride of place. At 12:30 on that day, Idesbald Goddeeris will present his work ‘Het Wiel van Ashoka’ (The Wheel of Ashoka) published in the framework of europalia.india.
