Citiation of Sarodian Alam Khan about James Pomerant (Source: Facebook on 3rd October 2013)
“It is with a broken heart that I let you all know that James Pomerantz has passed away. Jimmy was like my older brother and Guru bhai. He studied Sitar from my father, Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, for almost 40 years and was his right hand man for much of his performing and teaching career. Jimmy was family and my father regarded him as his son. He played Sitar on some of my fathers records such as Journey, Garden of Dreams and Legacy and had a great understanding of Indian Classical Music. Jimmy played Tanpura for countless concerts of my father and toured the world with him too many times to count! He was so supportive to me in my musical and personal life and I will always be thankful for all of his help. I don’t think I would be who I am today if it weren’t for both his brotherly and musical advice. I would always go to Jimmy to ask him questions about various Ragas, compositions and stories. His energetic, funny, caring, and loving personality will never be forgotten. I know Jimmy meant a lot to so many of you and we all have so many memories we can share about him. Jimmy was a friend to everyone and that’s always what has stuck out to me about him. No matter who it was or where he went, It was hard to not like and become friends with Jimmy from the moment you met him. He was just that kind of person. I will miss your presence on this earth Jimmy..I love you and I’m sorry I didn’t get to say that one last time.“
Tks to Alam Khan about this insight… our condolences to the family. R.I.P.
