Frauenverachtung ist keine indische Spezialität
– Gewalt gegen Frauen als Entwicklungshemmnis / Deutschland – Indien – Weltweit

Das Thema Gewalt gegen Frauen hat auch in deutschen Medien großen Nachhall gefunden. Die Benachteiligung
von Frauen auf verschiedenen Ebenen lässt sich auch als eines der wesentlichen Entwicklungshemmnisse lesen.
Wir fragen, wo die Ursachen dieser gruppenbezogenen Gewalt in Indien zu suchen sind, werden die Stellung der
Frau in der indischen Gesellschaft zugleich aber auch in den globalen Kontext der Frauenrechtsbewegung einordnen
und die Rückfrage nach den Verhältnissen in Deutschland stellen. Referentinnen: Edda Kirleis (Religionspädagogin),
Karin Kluck (Religionspädagogin), Prof. Dr. Christa Randzio-Plath (Rechtsanwältin), Tongam Rina (Journalistin, Arunachal
Pradesh, Indien, derzeit Stipendiatin der Hamburger Stiftung für politisch Verfolgte).

The issue of violence against women has been prominently discussed in German media. What are the deeper roots of
this phenomenon within the Indian society? We will not only look at the Indian context, but we will also put the situation
of women into the context of the strive for women`s rights globally as well as in Germany. Speakers: Edda Kirleis

 »Im Schatten des Hauses, in der Sonne des Flussufers«

Mit den Worten des Ausstellungstitels beginnt eine indische Erzählung, die seit Anfang des 20. Jh. die westliche
Vorstellung von Mythen und Spiritualität Indiens prägte. Für Generationen war die Dichtung Hermann Hesses eine
Maxime. George Harrison und die Beatles wandelten auf den Pfaden Siddharthas über den Subkontinent. Millionen
Jünger der »Love and Peace« – Generation sollten ihnen folgen.
Dieses Bild über Indien zeigt eine einseitig verzerrte, post-koloniale Vorstellung als Nachhall der Popkultur. Doch
so faszinierend die Kultur Indiens für die bildende Kunst von jeher war, so wenig verstehen wir heute von den aktuellen
Strömungen in der zeitgenössischen Kunst. Das Künstlerhaus FRISE wird im diesjährigen Artist-In-Residence-Programm
jungen Künstlern aus Indien die Gelegenheit bieten, uns einen frischen Blick auf Indiens Kunst zu schenken.

»In the shade of the house, in the sunshine of the riverbank«

The title of the exhibition is taken from the first lines of an Indian narration that influenced the Western notion about
myths and spirituality in India since the beginning of the 20th century. The poetry of Hermann Hesse was a maxim
for various generations. George Harrison and the Beatles walked over the subcontinent in the footsteps of Siddhartha
with millions of followers from the »Love and Peace« generation.
This image about India reflects a one-sided distorted, post-colonial perception evolving from the echoes of pop culture. As fascinating the culture of India has always been for the arts, as little we understand today about the current trends in contemporary arts. The Artist House FRISE allows a fresh view on India`s art scene in this year`s Artist-in-Residence program.
