Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan nominated for 2010 Grammy

Rahim AlHaj and Amjad Ali Khan have been honoured by the Recording Academy with a 2010 Grammy Nomination* in the Best Traditional World Music Category for their CD Ancient Sound.  The nomination makes it the second for Mr. AlHaj’s (the first was in 2008 for When the Soul is Settled: The Music of Iraq) whereas its Khan Sahab’s first nomination.

Ancient Sounds is a remarkable collaboration between these two widely acknowledged string masters – Rahim AlHaj Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Two of the world’s renowned masters of ancient stringed instruments, the Iraqi Oud (lute) and the Indian Sarod that brings together the musical heritage of their respective ancient cultures in a contemporary way resulting in a mesmerizing and harmonious dialogue. Their live duets, accompanied by Indian and Middle Eastern percussion, are sublime, powerful, passionate and extraordinarily beautiful.
