Miles Davis n’est jamais allé chercher son inspiration dans la musique indienne, comme ont pu le faire tant d’autres musiciens, des Beatles à Coltrane ou John McLaughlin. Si ce dernier est l’auteur de la belle composition qui donne son titre au projet de Miles from India, l’initiative en revient au producteur et archiviste Bob Belden, qui parvient à réunir dans cet hommage au grand trompettiste deux cultures, deux continents, deux traditions.

En compagnie de l’arrangeur et claviériste Louiz Banks, Bob Belden, qui remporta un Grammy Award pour l’édition des coffrets consacrés à Miles Davis chez Sony, présente ainsi une relecture originale des thèmes classiques tirés de Bitches Brew, In A Silent Way et Kind of Blue. Rassemblant des musiciens ayant joué avec Miles Davis, l’orchestre de Miles from India déploie un instrumentarium singulier : sitar et tablas, percussions en forme de vase (ghatam) et tambours sur cadre (khanjira), tambours en tonneau (mridangam) et violon carnatique se mêlent aux trompettes et saxophones, à la guitare électrique et à la section rythmique, dans une fusion inédite entre la musique classique indienne et le jazz américain.

The Cité de la Musique is a member of the ECHO network (European Concert Hall Organisation), supported by the European Commission. This network unites Europe’s largest concert halls.
The primary goal of this network is to promote the international careers of young musicians by providing them the opportunity to perform in network concert halls and at Carnegie Hall. So, every year, through the Rising stars 2009 project, new European talents are showcased in concerts across Europe.

Another of ECHO’s goals is to encourage cooperation in Europe in the field of music and especially in the area of musical creation.

Last, through this network, the directors of member halls meet each year to share good practices in programming, communication, public policy, pedagogy, etc.

Designed by architect Christian de Portzamparc, the Cité de la Musique is a venue for art and life surrounded by the greenery of the Parc de la Villette, in the heart of the French capital.

It is an international reference centre devoted to music, and hosts the world’s most popular artists. In partnership with prestigious European concert halls, it encourages musical creation and the promotion of young European talents. The Cité also co-produces exhibitions with foreign museums and disseminates its expertise and know-how worldwide.

La Cité also welcomes the Ensemble Intercontemporain in residence, an ensemble devoted to 20th century music and the premiering of new works
