This special event in November is the 8th concert of our series called Masters of Indian Classical Music. One single night you will be enchanted by three world famous stars of Indian Music: Pandit Rajeev Janardan, one of the greatest Sitar virtuoso of today, Dr. Kamala Shankar, the inventor of Shankar-Guitar and Dhruba Ghosh, the master of Sarangi. This night will be a true guide into the wide world of instruments of the Indian tradition.

Dr_Kamala_Shankar_and_Rajeev_Janardan_112009-1Born in Tanjore district of Tamilnadu, Kamala’s musical carrier started with the training in Vocal music, initiated by her mother at the age of six and blossomed to be a true artist under the valuable guidance from Pandit Channoolal Mishra, the renowned artist of Varanasi and sitar maestro Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee of Imdadkhani Gharana.

Kamala has developed the Guitar as a singing instrument and used the celebrated gayaki ang of Imdadkhani Gharana to present her repertoire of Hindustani classical music. Besides having the degree of B. science in Zoology and B. music in vocal, Kamala has got her doctorate (D. Music) in Guitar from Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University.

Dr. Kamala Shankar is known for her sweet and melodious rendition with the superb control of the instrument to present her versatility in the field.

Pandit Rajeev Janardan

Rajeev_Janardan_112009-1Pandit Rajeev Janardan, the torch bearer of the Imdadkhani (Etawah) Gharana (Musical tradition), is recognized as one of today’s greatest Sitar players of his generation in the field of Indian Classical Music.

Rajeev’s music is an innovative blending of the intricate gayaki ang (vocal style) and tantra ang (instrumental style). The uncanny accuracy of his meends, his delightful surlagao, the crystal clear superfast taankari in the compositions, the dirdir and the chikari variations in the jhala sections, leave the audience spell bound.

Rajeev Janardan had an inborn natural talent and aptitude for Music from his early childhood. He blossomed into a true artist under the valuable guidance of Pandit Bimlendu Mukherjee, a doyen of the famous Imdad Khani Gharana of Sitar.

Dhruba Ghosh

/ Sarangi

Dhruba_Ghosh_Sarangi-112009-1The sarangi is popularly known as “ the instrument of a hundred colours” from north India. Dhruba Ghosh has transformed the traditional classical Sarangi of North India into a multi-dimensional expression. His brilliance of technique, composition of performance and mastery of Ragas on Sarangi has labelled him as one of the living masters of this complicated instrument. He has greatly furthered the idea of bringing the Sarangi to the fully instrumental solo status.

Dhruba is the inheritor of the tradition of his masters, his father Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, the famed percussionist and pedagogue, the veteran vocalist-composer Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, and the renowned sarangi maestro Ustad Sagiruddin Khan of the legendary Bundu Khan style of Delhi. He has also been receiving core gharana material from Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (sarode master of the Maihar Gharana) and the great Bansuri player Pannalal Ghosh, who was known as the father of classical Hindustani flute, and elder brother of Nikhil Ghosh.

Dhruba Ghosh has performed at various music venues and respected Festivals in all over the world. Since 1991 he has been touring exclusively as a soloist and also colloboration concerts.

Vinod Lele

ViVinod_Lele_112009-1Born in 1965 Vinod Lele learnt the art of Tabla Playing from his guru Pandit Kashinath Khandekar of Banaras Gharana (Tradition of Banaras School) epitomized by the style of playing the celebrated Pandit Anoke Lal Ji. Vinod obtained the degree of Sangeet Praveen (Master in Tabla) from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, securing a Gold Medal. He has won first prize for the Tabla in U.P. Satet Sangeet Nathak Akademy, Music competition in 1982. He has also won first prize in the All India Radio Music Competition in 1983.

Vinod Lele’s Style of Tabla playing is characterized by liveliness, excellent control over the laya (speed) and impressive dexterity. He brings the touch of sweetness to his performance whether in solo concerts or in accompaniment. He is “A” grade artiste of the All India Radio and Television since 1984. He has accompanied a galaxy of top-notch Artiste in public performances notably Prof. V.G. Jog, Girija Deva, Dr. N. Rajam. Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pt. Buddhaditya Mukherjee, Pt. Bhajan Sopori, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pt. Jasraj, Pt Ulhas Kashalkar, Smt Aswini Bhide, Smt. Shubha Mudgal, Smt Shruti Sadolikar, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Pt. Debu Chaudhary and Pt. Ram Narayan etc.

He has toured New Zealand, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Germany and Japan several times for performance and lecture demonstration on Indian Classical Music.

Konzert mit KCP 3 / KCP 3 in Concert

The founders of the Karnataka College of Percussion in Bangalore take a special position in the Indian classical music. RA Ramamani, one of India´s best singers and TAS Mani, master percussionist, have demonstrated their skills on jazz festivals throughout the world. On this evening, they will show a wide perspective with both South Indian Raga music and jazz influences. Ramesh Shotham, once disciple of TAS Mani now master percussionst himself, is supporting them.

Die Begründer des Karnataka College of Percussion in Bangalore haben eine Ausnahmestellung innerhalb der klassischen indischen Musik inne: RA Ramamani, eine der besten Sängerinnen Indiens, und TAS Mani, Meisterpercussionist, treten zudem seit den 80er Jahren auf Jazzfestivals weltweit auf.
Heute spannen sie einen breiten Bogen von der klassischen südindischen Raga-Musik bis zum Indo-Jazz der Gegenwart. Ramesh Shotam, einst Schüler von TAS Mani und selbst Meisterpercussionist, unterstützt sie dabei.

Fourth Hanseatic India Colloquium: Healthcare, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Lectures, discussion forums and networking fostering the interchange between Indian and German enterprises and institutions in the field of Life Sciences. Particular emphasis will be placed on discussions on biopharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, cooperation in R & D as well as drug development and IPR. Miles Davis n’est jamais allé chercher son inspiration dans la musique indienne, comme ont pu le faire tant d’autres musiciens, des Beatles à Coltrane ou John McLaughlin. Si ce dernier est l’auteur de la belle composition qui donne son titre au projet de Miles from India, l’initiative en revient au producteur et archiviste Bob Belden, qui parvient à réunir dans cet hommage au grand trompettiste deux cultures, deux continents, deux traditions.

En compagnie de l’arrangeur et claviériste Louiz Banks, Bob Belden, qui remporta un Grammy Award pour l’édition des coffrets consacrés à Miles Davis chez Sony, présente ainsi une relecture originale des thèmes classiques tirés de Bitches Brew, In A Silent Way et Kind of Blue. Rassemblant des musiciens ayant joué avec Miles Davis, l’orchestre de Miles from India déploie un instrumentarium singulier : sitar et tablas, percussions en forme de vase (ghatam) et tambours sur cadre (khanjira), tambours en tonneau (mridangam) et violon carnatique se mêlent aux trompettes et saxophones, à la guitare électrique et à la section rythmique, dans une fusion inédite entre la musique classique indienne et le jazz américain.

Furthermore, Indian participants of a Manager Training Programme of the German Federal Ministry of Economics report on their experience in and with the German economy.
