BBC appoints Nachiket Pantvaidya as GM, South Asia …

MUMBAI: BBC Worldwide’s Global Channels business has announced the appointment of former Walt Disney executive Nachiket Pantvaidya as general manager, South Asia.

In this new role within the Global Channels South Asia structure, Pantvaidya will be responsible for leading the Global Channels team in the region and managing the growth strategy for BBC-branded channels.

While managing the BBC’s existing businesses and channels, Pantvaidya will also help drive further awareness of the BBC channel brands.

He will report to SVP Global Channels Asia-Pacific Christine Leo-McKerrow and will assume his new role on 11 July.

McKerrow says, “There is enormous opportunity for BBC Global Channels in India right now and we are delighted to have Nachiket’s unique strengths to build a deep business and to ensure our channels really resonate with our audience.”

Pantvaidya says, “While building on the foundation that the BBC team in India has already laid down, I am really excited by the opportunity to bring the full complement of BBC channels and quality content to Indian viewers. ”

Prior to this, Pantvaidya spent three years as executive director, programming and production, for Disney India’s channels.

Pantvaidya has also held several positions as part of the Sony Entertainment Television network in India, which included VP sales and marketing across the AXN, Animax and HBO channels.

BIG’s Kolkata station to celebrate World Music Day

MUMBAI: BIG 92.7 FM’s Kolkata station has chalked up contests, celeb shows and phone in shows to mark World Music Day on Thursday.The station plans to play some of the city’s best loved music, and give out musical gifts and CDs every time one of its jocks talks. Celebrity guests like Monomoy Bhattacharya, Haimanti Shukla, Sriradha Banerjee and Anindyo will be present in the studio throughout the day.

Nasha, Whosane! and Kris in popular pubs across five cities in the country, starting with Mumbai.

The day long celebrations will start with the morning Breakfast Show BIG Chumuk hosted by Koushik and will feature Monomoy Bhattacharya. There will be a special episode of Tirishe Maat, inviting listeners to showcase their singing or musical skills in 30 seconds, and one winner will get an exclusive music training course, courtesy the radio station.

The station will have special customised programming througout the day, special capsules celebrating the occasion and will play listeners favourite music all day long, apart from providing trivia on music, and running contests on musical preferences of the city.
