Hasu Patel, a disciple of sitar legend Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib (1928-2003), is a worldclass female classical musician performing on sitar, the most popular string instrument of India. As a performer, composer and gifted sitar teacher, she has dedicated her life to preserving and propagating the traditional music of ancient India in its pristine purity. She holds degrees in music with honors and awards.
Her playing on sitar replicates fluidity and subtle nuances of the human voice. She sometimes collaborates with western classical and jazz musicians. She is on the Board of the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM).
Hasu teaches classical music of India at her Sursangam School of Music. To listen to her CD ‘Gayaki Sitar’ is a transcendental experience.
In her workshop “Mystical Power of Vedic Music of India: The Body and Mind ealer“, Hasu will present the hypnotic sound of the Sitar, the most popular tringed instrument in ancient India.
You will hear the complexity of this divine music, which is based on Ragas melodies) and Taals (rhythm). These melodies, accompanied with microtones (shrutis), can help relieve stress and heal the body, mind and spirit. This music has been played for centuries as a tool for relieving stress, fear, pain (physical and mental), grief, anxieties, loneliness, low self-esteem, and negative thoughts. The music oxygenates the cells, extracting the physical and emotional toxins and filling the body with divine energy.
Hasu shows the proper way to use simple musical techniques such as chanting the primordial sound OM and Sanskrit hymns, and also by listening/singing the Ragas according to time theory.
Sitar music is an instrumental music, which expresses the emotions through swaras (musical notes). It is a silent inner voice. It soothes the rebel mind. It helps health professionals bring harmony, love, peaceful solutions, kindness and self-awareness to their patients, which then helps society at large.
In Hasu’s workshop, you will experience the healing power of Sitar music. You will be introduced to the classical music of India as a healing power, learn the hypnotizing power of Sitar music of ancient India through deep listening and connecting with the chakras (energy points).
